Bedrock Bed & Breakfast, situated in the parish of Harray, the heart of the West Mainland, is just off the main road from Birsay to Finstown and overlooks Harray Loch.  It is conveniently close to both Kirkwall (11 miles) and Stromness (10 miles).

We are ideally situated for visiting the Neolithic sites of Maeshowe (3 miles), the Ness and Ring of Brodgar (5 miles) and Stones of Stenness and Barnhouse village (4 miles) all within a few minutes drive.  Andrew Appleby the 'Harray Potter' has his studio and workshop a few hundred yards away and the award winning Orkney Brewery, which incidentally serves excellent food during the day, is a ten minute drive from us.

Fishermen can take advantage of the hire boats available at the Merkister Hotel which is situated on the shore of Harray Loch.  Harray Stores (general stores and off-licence) is 2 miles away, Finstown 3 miles away, has a shop, post office, hairdressers and garage.  Dounby, 4 miles away, has a Co-op store (with fuel pumps) a hairdresser and a post office.

For evening meals and a relaxing drink in the evenings, the Merkister Hotel (3 miles), the Smithfield Arms (4 miles) and the Standing Stones Hotel (4 miles) all serve locally sourced food and drink.

The local Harray Community Hall is the practice venue for the Orkney Strathspey and Reel Society on a Monday night and visitors are always welcome.  Farther afield there are hotels and restaurants in both Stromness and Kirkwall, several of which have live music at the weekends.

PLEASE NOTE:
Bedrock is a pet free and smoke free home so, all rooms are non-smoking and we do not accept pets.
